Stonewall Charity Summer Party 2012 (Roof Gardens)

This was a fantastic event and wonderfully organised courtesy of their supporters Societe Generale, g3, Out in the City and Out News. stonewall is a lesbian, gay and bisexual rights charity in the United Kingdom named after the Stonewall Inn of Stonewall riots fame. Now the largest gay equality organization not only in the UK but in Europe. They managed to raise over £51,000 on this evening towards their education for all campaign which tackles homophobic bullying in schools.

The host for the evening was TV’s favourite Doctor-Christian Jessen, who lead the evening with a very emotional speech. ‘Over the years my admiration and respect for Stonewall and the work they do has gone nuclear,’ he said. ‘Their campaign to fight homophobic bullying in schools strikes a chord with me. It’s shocking that homophobia is endemic in British schools – I find that extremely embarrassing. The work Stonewall do really does make a difference. It will help stamp it out.’He was entertaining and honest, many people deal with these problems day in and day out. charities like Stonewall provide help support and above all education not only to the pupils and people who are suffering, also to their peers in order to understand the world they are living in.

The evening revolved around laughter, yummy cocktails, fabulous food and good banter. I was lucky enough to have contributed to their silent auction to raise money for the cause, they chose a print of mine (Beach Hut No7) from a selection of new pieces. It is from my first collection, a jazzy mishmash of comic, Hybrid, photographic, painted, images printed on to canvas. I love the atmosphere of this image as it was taken whilst on a beach in Maspalomas the sun shining whilst facing the Atlantic I’m sure with some retro beats pumping out over the sand dunes. It is colourful and relevant so I was more than happy to let them have it. The team were fantastic in promoting all of the money making experiences with some awesome treats up for grabs.

Other celebrity guests and supporters were Beverley Knight, Russell Tovey, Julian Clary, Jane Hill and Gok Wan. Lovely to catch up with Beverley again and to meet some new faces. All in all a fabulous time.

It is definitely worth checking out their website www.stonewall.org.uk/ as they do so much more than mentioned above. I would truly love to work with the team again if they would be interested in having me. I wish them every success and I will continue to support them.
